Clinton travels to the Middle East amid Gaza crisis

Top news: U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton left Cambodia on Tuesday to meet with leaders in Israel, Egypt, and the West Bank, as the conflict in Gaza entered its seventh day. Overnight, Israel carried out roughly 100 airstrikes on Hamas targets inside Gaza and more than 60 rockets have been fired toward Israel so far on Tuesday. The death toll sits at 112, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.

In Cairo, U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon called for a cessation of hostilities. "My message is clear," he said.  "All sides must halt fire immediately. Further escalating the situation will put the entire region at risk." According to the BBC, Israel has put plans for a ground invasion on hold as Egypt tries to broker a ceasefire. "I prefer a diplomatic solution," said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. "I hope that we can get one but if not, we have every right to defend ourselves with other means and we shall use them."
