Angola's Black Gold: what lies ahead, resource curse or a glorious future?

An offshore platform - Resource-rich Angola is the second-biggest oil producer in sub-Saharan Africa, turning out more than 1.9 million barrels per day . If there is one thing that does not worry Angola, it is oil. This year's pre-salt oil discoveries mean that within 15 years, the country could become Africa's number one oil producer and shoot up from number 16 to the world's top 5. Optimists see skyrocketing economic and geopolitical potential; critics think Angola's success story could end in a Michael Jackson-style tragedy.
