Eleni | Seeding Commodity Exchanges

The FT reports on the launch of Eleni LLC - A commodity exchange building company founded by Eleni Gabre Madhin:

Eleni Gabre-Madhin, founder of the Ethiopia Commodity Exchange, has launched a new company to try to replicate elsewhere in Africa and Asia the experience of Ethiopia. The World Bank's International Finance Corporation, which invests in the private sector, and Morgan Stanley have put $5m into the venture...The company, called Eleni LLC, is based in Nairobi, Kenya. Ms Gabre-Madhin says that by the end of the decade, her company will have helped to build up to 10 exchanges in Africa. "In the past two years, I have hosted 18 delegations from African countries plus three from Asia. They were all very interested in the model of Ethiopia," she says.
