In ContemporaryAnd:
ANO is a research foundation and platform for collaborations, publications, films, exhibitions and events.
It was founded in 2002 by Nana Oforiatta Ayim and is based in Accra and Kyebi in Ghana. The word comes from ƐNO (grandmother) in Akan, in which Abrewa, the old woman, is the first human being and origin of all things. It also comes from -ANO, the suffix denoting belonging in Esperanto, that idealised of all languages. Its interests are in the ways histories are told and organised; as well as in different ways of being, that like polyrhythms exist in the same space without cancelling each other out, and in the silences that hold them together.
